We are exploring in season winter blooms, why it is important to choose seasonal blooms and air purifying plants for your home to help with dust in the cooler months.
Buying in season flowers often means larger bloom sizes as well as fresher quality. So what is in season in the winter in the northern hemisphere ? Aside from common blooms that are year round such as alstroemeria, carnations, chrysanthemums and gerbera daisies more unique blooms that are in season are: acashia, amaryllis, cyclamen, evergreens, ginger, helleborus, holly berry, pansies, pepperberry, phlox, protea and star of bethlehem. These flowers can make for gorgeous rich arrangements as they come in rich greens, whites, deep reds, golds and purples. Additionally, textures are a large part of winter arrangements. Thistle is in season along with a variety of evergreen branches. These textures allow for the eye to travel the arrangement and feel full; yet, also mimic the natural barren landscape we are in bringing a little bit of nature indoors.
Here in Colorado we are fast approaching the end of fall and entering winter ! Holiday parties will start next month and what better way to create conversation, add beauty and bring nature indoors than a centerpiece for your dining table or entry way?!
Additionally we hosted our first air plant class in October and it was a huge success. Several ladies from around town joined us after work and classes to come build fun air plant terrariums. Our goal is to expand our classes and hopefully have them monthly. If you have ideas , comments or would like to help with a class please email us at bouldergardens@gmail.com!
